---- Rail Link is Fight of Year ----

March 9th, 1984, Barrhead News

Neilston and District Community Council held its Annual General Meeting in the Glen Halls last Tuesday evening and there was a poor response from the public.

Mr R Collins presided over a good attendance of council members but only seven members of the public turned up. Mr Collins expressed his disappointment that more members of the public had not come along. Secretary, Mrs A Garscadden, in her report reviewed the various subjects that had come before the council during the year. The council’s action in the fight to save the rail-link figured prominently.

SUPPORT

The special sub-committee set up from the council had researched the subject well and their subsequent actions had received a good response from villagers. It was continuing to monitor the situation and the fight will go on. It was also considering the government white paper on buses and the local Member of Parliament Allan Stewart promised full support to the council in their fight and furnished them with new figures of the usage by villagers of the Neilston line.
