---- Tories Take Stand on Travel Issue ----

March 9th, 1984, Barrhead News

…..Allan Stewart (Tory MP) spoke on the two issues in the news forefront in Barrhead at the moment – the threatened closure of Neilston station and the awaited judgment on McGills Auchenback to Glasgow bus service’

The MP was adamant that the fight to save the Neilston station would continue and that its closure would mean disaster for the now growing and thriving community in Neilston. ‘The Barrhead station’ he said ‘is no alternative for the people of Neilston, and is also no alternative for the people of Auchenback who had fought long and hard for a direct journey from the scheme to the city’.
