I remember about the washing. We had about 10 folk between the two closes to
this wash-house. It was about a foot from the back door and had a big boiler
in it and two big tubs. You got a certain day to go. Mother would get away down
and steep the washing and put on the boiler and get the hot water. Then she
would do her washing -put into the boiler and boil it and then she would go
away up the stair and by the time they were boiled, or she thought they were
ready for rinse and hanging out, she came down and she did that. After it was
all finished she had to leave the wash-house the way she got it, clean. Before
that, if any of us wanted to get our feet washed or anything like that, she
put on the boiler again and we got ourselves in the wash house.
