Barrhead,
April, 2002

I want to congratulate the members of the Barrhead People's Story for their persistence in bringing their oral reminiscences through transcription to publication. Their enterprise in successfully achieving Lottery funding is commendable. It has ensured that knowledge of the local way of life from the 1920 to the 1950s will be handed down to future generation. These very personal stories really bring history to life!

I am delighted to recommend this collection. Although these years were hard for many Barrhead folk, these stories, full of humour, energy and spirit, show how much they enjoyed their lives and made the most of even the most difficult of circumstances.

It is my hope that they will be read and enjoyed by people of all ages in Barrhead and beyond. I will do what I can to ensure that knowledge of their publication is widespread.

Leave it to me!
