During the War, I wasn't in Glasgow for very long, but I was there when the
air raids started. My dad, being a tailor, he got the job of converting army
blankets into siren suits. They were left at the bottom of your bed at night
and you popped them on top of your pyjamas. It was ideal for going to the shelter
in. When other neighbours saw what my brother and I had, my dad was kept going
full time making suits, everybody was kept going about daft trying to find army
blankets. One of my neighbours, we called her Aunt Hannah, was one of those very
organised people and she had a big biscuit tin full of sweets for the children.
You had to wait an hour and you got one sweetie each handed out to you.
