BARRHEAD ARTISTS

Barrhead Artists has been in existence since 1993.

We currently have 35 members who meet in James McGuire Building, Main Street Centre, on Thursday evenings form 7.00 to 9.30p.m. September to June.

Our philosophy is that art is for everyone and although not a teaching club we are open to beginners. Unfortunately, owing to space restrictions, the number of new admissions has to be restricted and at times there may be a waiting list for membership. The club has a strong sociable element and it is therefore important that any new members admitted are willing and able to mix well and maintain the club's friendly ambience. Club members (which include well-known established artists) are willing to share their knowledge and expertise freely. We have a broad range of materials for example acrylics, watercolours, gouache and pastels for the new or established artist to try.

A programme of events which runs throughout the session includes workshops, still life evenings and outings to local beauty spots for drawing and painting. Well-known professional artists such as John Spinelli, David Scott Martin & Jack Rigg have given demonstrations of their skill and techniques.

We hold our Annual Exhibition in the former Barrhead Museum (now the Arts and Heritage Centre) each year in May/June and have a smaller Autumn display of paintings at Wilton Framing in Cochrane Street, giving not only our local community but many from outwith the East Renfrewshire area an opportunity to purchase and see our current members work, which most years features a number of hand painted china pieces. We are proud that paintings from previous exhibitions have gone as far a field as America & Greece.Membership is open to anyone over 18 years of age.

Annual membership fee is £5.00 and there is a change for each evening attended of £1.50 per evening. New members welcome, when vacancies are available.
